The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

The Good:  ISU wins 20-19, and we get a little glimpse of our team for the 2011 football season.   It was a close call, we almost let one slip away from us.  "It's good to be 1-0," Head Coach Rhoads said. "We have absorbed and learned a lot since Saturday and now it is time to take that knowledge and improve our football team. "There was an overall lack of execution by our football team in the first game and that overrides any thoughts ... on what was successful or not."
The Bad: Iowa Hawkeye week usually musters up as much interest as Shark week on The Discovery Channel.   However, The last two years the Iowa-Iowa State football game has been nothing more than an easy non-conference tune up for the Hawkeyes.  Iowa won both games by a combined total of 70-10. For the Cyclones to reverse that trend, head coach Paul Rhoads said ISU needs to assert itself up front.   For some reason I’m really not as much into the Iowa Game this year.
The Ugly:  Texas A&M informs The Big XII they are planning to leave the conference.   Oklahoma has stated they are more actively looking at options than any other school in the Big XII.   This signals the demise of the Big XII,  Sources say Missouri has received feelers from the Big Ten, SEC, Pac-12 and Big East. Kansas has also received feelers from the Pac-12 and Big East, sources said. Kansas State has also received feelers from the Big East, sources said.  Iowa State doesn’t even get a mention.   The Musical Chairs game is on, the music has stopped and Iowa State doesn’t have a seat.   If Iowa State is lucky enough to land in a conference it is likely to be with a Mid-Major Conference.  "There are so many moving pieces right now, everything can change in an hour," said one Big 12 administrator Monday afternoon. "But it's total chaos right now."  Iowa State, Baylor, and others have stated it will take legal action against A&M for leaving the Big XII.

Updates: Terri will be pleased to know that the Commissioner has been busy gaining a firm commitment from our latest Sponsor: Sweet Martha’s Cookie Jar.   This is a coveted sponsor for the 2011 tailgate season.  For those of you who are unfamiliar with Sweet Martha’s Cookie Jar.   Martha Specializes in Red Raspberry Jam filled Heart cookies.   And the crowd favorite, “Swedish Lips” cookie.   Which is a tasty little bisque that has a frothy  white icing that I can only pray to God is some sort of Meringue.

Some of you may have noticed Carl missed our tailgate this last weekend.   And perhaps you were curious what he was up to.   I can’t say exactly what he was up to but I was able to secure a picture from his weekend on the left.   We should have fun this weekend.  Get ready for a good Tailgate breakfast and pancake benefit—following the game will be pizza.
