How I spent my summer vacation.

Summer has come and gone, much like my golf game, and it’s hard to believe we’ll be kicking off another season of Cyclone football very soon.   I spent much of my summer walking around the block, reading books with big pictures, and playing Sherpa for my wife and daughter.  One of my off season highlights was our vacation to Oregon topped off with a whitewater rafting trip pictured above.  In addition, Mary and I have been sharing a new activity - Swinging.   Yep we have been swinging almost every night, it is a really fun and sometime we do it at the park..

New Sponsor
As commissioner I have been busy in my off-season as well. This first year as a new father has been very busy, and I have found it challenging to balance my time with Julia who demands that we go for a walk every night. I have walked more these last three months than I have in the last three years.   In honor of being a new father I was able to pick up a new sponsor for the tailgate newsletter – Go Daddy.com.  This is something my daughter says frequently.

Big XII News: Texas A&M explores joining the SEC Conference.   We have Texas to thank for this one once again.   All of this movement in college football and fissures (look it up) in the Big XII are slowly making the Big XII irrelevant.   Nebraska and Colorado have departed and it is only a matter of time before Texas A&M and Missouri depart.   Missouri has publicly stated they are on the market but nobody’s buying like the half dozen or so foreclosed houses in my neighborhood.  As I have stated in the past it is only a matter of time before the Big XII is disbanded and there are four super conferences.   This story line is going to continue to play out over the next five years.   But now it is time to get ready for the first Iowa State Football Game next week.   Next week should be fun with a 6:00 pm kickoff against the UNI Panthers.
